Bellamy & Co (Bham) Ltd
A family garage that started trading
before cars were owned by the masses has finally called it a day after
five generations.
Bellamy & Co was one of only a
handful of independent garages still trading in Birmingham before calling
it a day in April 2003.
The business started trading in
Granville Street in 1890 using a horse and cart as transport.
Pictured is garage
owners Charlie Bellamy and his son Brian.

Heavy transport was the
business to be in at the turn of the century. |

A picture from when the
garage first opened in Granville street. |

|
This and the following pictures were taken shortly
after the closing of Bellamy & Co. These pictures show the
format that was typical of so many garages throughout the city, an island
with two or more petrol pumps, a kiosk that was barely big enough for one
person, workshops and a family run business.

This picture shows the location of Bellamy's garage
on the corner of Clement St. and King Edwards Road, Ladywood.

Time to go, sweep the forecourt, collect the water
cans, lock the pump's, put the chain's across, cash up, make sure the
cat's out, turn off the electric and let's go for a beer. |
