| Lansdowne
service station was on this site previous to Kennings (see above picture).
The orignal picture is dated 25th April 1953. I don't know if this
is accurate. The picture shows the garage on the right at the junction of
Lansdowne Road and Gravelly Hill North, looking towards Six-Ways
Erdington. In the distance on the right can be seen the steeple of
St Barnabus church, High St Erdington. The sign on the
building next to the garage belongs to 'Frank Yapp Builder and
Plumber'.
In 1943 at the same address
No 118, there was a 'Petrol Filling Station' operated by Stimpson
Bros........Kelly's Directory 1943.
The tram is on route No2,
Steelhouse Lane to Erdington (Sutton New Road instead of the High St, from
25/9/1938). The fleet number of the tram is 728. This was an 8
wheeler fitted with two 40 hp motors. This tram was Built by Brush
in 1925-26 and was garaged at Miller St. This tram had a lucky
escape as many of the 700 fleet were destroyed in air raids on Miller St
and Witton depot...........Ian Allen. Trams and Trolley Buses
